A Dream about Extraterrestrial Life

The night before last, I had an interesting dream about extraterrestrial Life. It was one of four dreams recalled in the morning and does not appear to relate to the other three.

In the dream, I was standing near a newsstand. I looked over at the assortment of magazines and newspapers stacked on the stand. All of the cover pages were similar and “shouted” out the existence of extraterrestrial life. Various pictures were shown, including the supposed remains of an alien. The headlines all highlighted the word extraterrestrial or alien. The story was the lead on every publication and dominated the news.

Now extraterrestrial life is not a subject in which I have any particular interest. I am aware of the chatter on the Internet concerning the subject, and many are still hopeful of finding evidence for life elsewhere in the universe. However, this was more than evidence for some type of organic life; the publications indicated that evidence existed for visits by alien life forms at some previous time in the earth’s history. And this evidence was now released by the government.

There are probably three main possibilities for the meaning of this dream: symbolic, literal, and literal incorporation of a movie or TV program. Since dreams are not normally literal, at least in every aspect, it is likely that my subconscious just fabricated my dream experience by using alien lifeforms to symbolize something else. If I can understand what they symbolize, then I can begin to unravel the meaning of the dream. If the dream is precognitive, perhaps something will dominate the news that is like a story of extraterrestrial life in some way. The deciphering of the dream is finding the correct association.

The second possibility is that some startling revelation will be made about extraterrestrial life that dominates the news. The only reason I consider this as a possibility is the high degree of correlation between my dreams and actual events that later occur.

The third possibility is that I will watch a TV program or movie has the theme I encountered in the dream. The newsstand in the dream suggests the news media will be involved in some way. Yesterday I did have an experience with TV that may relate to the dream. I watched the Charlie Rose hour, which consisted of a roundtable discussion by various media experts on the current front-runners in the primaries for the presidential nomination. Much of the discussion centered on Donald Trump, who seemed to be regarded as unlike any other politician. The expression he is from another planet might be an apt description of their view. 

My purpose in presenting this dream is to provide insight into how I undertake the interpretation of a puzzling dream. I consider all the possibilities, and often I do not know which one is correct until some later event occurs. Sometimes the associations in the dream become obvious as I reflect on the past day or experience the events of the current day.

A Dream of an Attack in Chicago

During the early morning hours on Easter Sunday, I had the following dream. I was on the phone when someone walked into the room and said, “Get off the phone. We are at war.” I followed him into another room where the TV was on. A newscaster said the IBM building in Chicago had been hit. While it was collapsing, the newscaster bemoaned its destruction and talked about the difficulty of watching it sink into a pile of rubble.

Now I am not prophesying that we are going to see another 9/11 unfold in Chicago, although that is a possibility. On Easter Sunday I was house sitting for my son and I decided to watch a movie in the afternoon. In the beginning of the movie, the main character was watching the destruction of the Twin Towers on TV during 9/11. The movie was about spies and international business being used to fund an economic attack on the United States.

I have previously stated that my dreams often fold in a plot from a movie I later watch. This appears to be the case here. However, since it is also possible that the movie precipitated the dream because my subconscious sees as a future possibility an attack unfolding in Chicago, I decided to post it.

The IBM building in Chicago apparently no longer houses offices for IBM, but it is a major landmark and an iconic building. My dream may have selected that building because of the IBM name. It wanted to convey that international business was also involved in the movie. 

When interpreting a dream, I try to consider all possible aspects. Sometimes it is only later when I discover which of the possibilities was correct.

Our Activities During Dreams

When we dream, our minds can be extremely active. And sometimes we may not be totally in our body while we sleep and dream. We can astral project and encounter events that are out of our conscious view and maybe out of the normal time sequence, such as experiencing a future event.

A few weeks ago, I had a brief dream in which I was a passenger in a car that was speeding along a road. Up ahead, I noticed construction equipment along the middle of the road and cars along the side. I thought the driver was going much too fast for the conditions and yelled for him to slow down. Just as I did, he drove too close to another vehicle and scraped the side of his and the other car. That was the end of the dream.

A few days later, my son called and during our conversation mentioned that his car had been hit while parked on the side of the street. Someone drove too close to his car and scraped the fender on the driver's side.

I have had this type of dream on numerous occasions where I participate in an event that will affect someone I know, but may be far removed from my own life and activities. Of course, in this dream one could speculate that rather than astral projecting I simply tuned into my son's situation and my subconscious mind built a story around it. Even in this interpretation, we would have telepathy and /or clairvoyance taking place within the dream state.

Update for New Book

Work is progressing according to plan on my new book. My editor will be making a final review next month. I don't yet have a title, but I will provide it as soon as it is finalized. I anticipate that the book will be available by summer. This book will contain some suggested exercises for the reader who is beginning to explore his or her dreams.

Dreams Concerning Unemployment and the Stock Market

A few days ago, I dreamed that a man was showing me a graph of the unemployment rate. The graph showed the rate falling during the past several years as job growth has lowered the unemployment rate to 5.0% from a thirty-year high of 10% in 2009. I saw the bottom of the graph, and from there it started to rise again. Now, I don’t know if November’s 5.0% represents the low, or December’s numbers will represent the low. The unemployment numbers for December will be reported on Friday, January 8, 2016.

As always, it is possible that the dream is symbolic of something else and is not related to unemployment at all. However, at this time I cannot find another interpretation that makes sense. Also, my past dreams involving graphs like the one in this dream have usually been literal.

Although I do not predict stock market moves, I think that now is a good time to be cautious. The stock market has started the New Year on an ugly note, and world events are certainly not encouraging. 

Late last year, I had a dream in which a person appeared as an adviser who provided some information about the stock market. He named two widely traded stocks, American Express and Disney, as stocks that experienced problems in 2015, which is well known. He said that their performance was not the result a selloff in the broader market.

(American Express followed a down trajectory, except for small rallies, all year. Disney headed higher until early August when it dropped, later recovered, and then dropped again. It still finished the year higher, but well below its highs for the year.) 

He then said that they were indicative of a prior stage to a massive selloff, and he showed me how a massive selloff would look. I do not know if this means a major selloff is inevitable, and if so, when it will occur or how great it will be in numeric terms. 

At this time, I would say I consider it a warning and the need to be cautious. I do not know how the stock market will perform in 2016 and am not providing financial advice. For financial advice, you should consult with a financial adviser. I think most financial experts are already telling people to be cautious in 2016 considering the slow global growth and numerous potential risks to the world economy.

A Worrisome Dream

The night before the Paris attacks, I had a worrisome dream. Other dreams occurred that night in which great commotion was taking place involving many people, but I could not specifically relate them to the situation in Paris. This particular dream probably does not relate to the Paris attacks either, but it causes me concern for other reasons. First, I will relate the dream.

In the dream, I was in a plane that was coming in for a landing. The plane appeared to be a small commuter plane. I was walking down the aisle when a flight attendant instructed me to take my seat for landing. I couldn’t seem to locate it, and the attendant pointed to a seat next to a large, overweight man. 

In an instant, I found myself above him squished against the ceiling. I thought, I can’t stay here like this. I then seemed to realize I was out of body and not a normal passenger. As the plane taxied into the gate ramp, I was already walking toward the front exit. 

Suddenly, a huge explosion occurred that seemed to come from the rear of the plane. A wave of fire and debris blew the entire front of the plane and me away. I think it affected the terminal building as well.

Obviously, as I have stated many times in my posts, I first look at current and planned events in my life to see if the dream fits any of them. I have done that and at least as of today cannot find any relationship. Of course, this could change over the coming days and weeks, but right now I don’t have an interpretation that fits my life.

The worrisome part of the dream is what appears to be my out-of-body visit to this plane. When this happened in the past, within a few days planes crashed just like in the dreams. In one dream, I can still recall the terror of the passengers when they realized the plane was going down. I experienced it with them.

I certainly hope that this dream is not precognitive of an actual event. However, with terrorists targeting so many nations, it is conceivable that this could happen. ISIL has already claimed responsibility for the downing of the Russian aircraft, which some airline safety experts believe was due to a bomb. 

I don’t know why I found myself on that particular plane. If one is destroyed in a similar way, perhaps the answer will become clear. I have flown on a number of commuter planes during my working career; maybe the plane in the dream relates to one of those. 

I want to emphasize that I am not predicting that a plane will be destroyed as in my dream. But I do make associations, and my past associations with this type of dream were disturbing. Perhaps this time it will be different. As always, use caution wherever you are. If you are traveling and see something that seems out of place, report it.
